Shukra Pradosha Pooja is a special worship dedicated to Lord Shiva that takes place during the Pradosham period, which is the time approximately 1.5 hours before and after sunset on the Trayodashi Tithi (13th lunar day). When Pradosham falls on a Friday, it is called Shukra Pradosha.
Friday (Shukra Vara) is ruled by Planet Venus (Shukra), which represents love, luxury, wealth, beauty, and harmony. Worshiping Lord Shiva on Shukra Pradosha is believed to bless devotees with material and spiritual prosperity, good relationships, and happiness

When is it Performed?

  • Every Friday Pradosham that falls during Trayodashi Tithi
  • The most auspicious time is 1.5 hours before sunset until 1.5 hours after sunset
  • If it coincides with special days like Maha Shivaratri or Shravan month, the results are considered even more powerful

Key Rituals Involved

  • Purification: Take a holy bath and wear clean traditional clothes
  • Altar Setup: Place an idol or Shivlingam, along with a picture of Goddess Parvati and Nandi
  • Lighting the Lamp: Light a lamp with ghee or sesame oil
  • Abhishekam: Perform a sacred bath (Abhisheka) of the Shivlingam using water, milk, curd, honey, and ghee
  • Offerings: Offer Bilva leaves, flowers, fruits, and sandalwood paste
  • Mantra Chanting: Recite Lord Shiva’s mantras, including:
    • Om Namah Shivaya
    • Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
  • Shukra Graha Shanti Mantra: To pacify Venus, chant:
    • Om Shum Shukraya Namah
  • Aarti and Prasad: Perform Shiva Aarti and distribute prasad among the devotees
